October 2024 WMA issued a new version of the Declaration of Helsinki. Most striking changes include:

  • a widening of scope,
  • the addition that any intervention should be evaluated throughout their entire life-cycle via research,
  • reference to candidate research participants and community involvement,
  • the addition of the option for electronic consent, and
  • the need for ethics committee involvement and ideally consent (!) in case of secondary use of biological material from research participants.
